Introduction
While “receptionist” and “front desk officer” are often used interchangeably, a “receptionist” usually refers to someone who greets visitors, answers phones, and manages administrative tasks in a general office setting, while a “front desk officer” typically implies a more specialized role, often in hospitality settings like hotels, where they handle check-ins, check-outs, and guest services at the front desk; essentially, both roles involve being the first point of contact for visitors, but the “front desk officer” may have a slightly more focused customer service role with additional responsibilities related to guest management.
A front desk officer is also known as a receptionist, front office clerk, or desk agent. Other related titles include front office manager, front desk supervisor, or executive receptionist. Similar professions and job titles to a Desk Receptionist are Customer Service Representative, Front Desk Representative, Office Manager, Customer Service Specialist, Concierge, Cashier, Barista and Office Associate.
